John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, and Tara Sutaria’s Ek Villain Returns has taken a good opening, but many theaters outside the prime metro multiplexes are clocking the biggest numbers so far
Yesterday, 29th July, is the day that Ek Villain Returns is released in theaters worldwide. The film revolves around a rich and privileged high school student who tries to trick a struggling singer in order to exact revenge for a previous viral prank but then has a change of heart but then gets ensnared by two characters, Bhairav and Rasika. Is John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor and Tara Sutaria’s Ek Villain Returns doing well at the box office?

Given the reduced budget, much lesser star cast, and general lower expectations, the opening is far more auspicious than Shamshera’s in comparison to projected potential profits, market trends, and general estimates of potential. John Abraham, Disha Patani, Arjun Kapoor, and Tara Sutaria starrer has brought in a 7 crore nett opening, largely due to the goodwill the first part is still holding for the audience. The music also seems to have worked on a superficial level. As of now, it is theaters outside of the major metroplexes that are clocking the largest numbers.

Giving the film 1 out of 5 stars, BollywoodLife wrote in its review, “In a country, where women are victims of acid attacks just for rejecting a guy; Ek Villain Returns makes things problematic to a whole different level. Even legendary filmmakers have had missteps, and it would’ve been perfectly fine merely for Mohit Suri to simply make a hilariously bad movie, rather than make such a toxically bad one. Also, you know you’re in trouble when the best actor from your ensemble cast is Disha Patani.”
Success is easy if you start off well, but the real challenge is maintaining momentum over the weekdays. We’ll see how Ek Villain Returns continues.
