If you’re a big fan of the Toy Story franchise, or just Pixar in general, then you’ll be excited to know that there’s another one on the way. It might not be the most eagerly-anticipated sequel, since it doesn’t feature any of the original characters (although Tom Hanks is voicing one), but it will give us a new adventure with some old favourites – Buzz Lightyear and Woody! Here’s everything you need to know about this spin-off before watching…
The story

In the new Toy Story spin-off, Lightyear, we follow the story of Buzz Lightyear as he goes from being a toy to becoming a space ranger. The film is set before the events of the original Toy Story movie and will focus on how Buzz became the famous space ranger that we all know and love. We’ll also get to see some of our other favorite characters from the franchise, like Woody and Jessie, in new roles.
The crew

The film will focus on Buzz Lightyear (voiced by Tim Allen) and will be a prequel that tells the story of how he became a space ranger. Joining him will be his partner-in-crime Woody (voiced by Tom Hanks), as well as a new character, Bo Peep (voiced by Annie Potts). Bonnie’s toys are also set to make an appearance in the movie, though it is unclear if they will have speaking roles or not. Other characters from other films in the franchise are not expected to appear in this one.

The upcoming American computer-animated space western comedy film Lightyear is being produced by Pixar Animation Studios for Walt Disney Pictures. It is directed by Angus MacLane, written by Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter, and produced by Mark Nielsen. The film will serve as a prequel to the 1995 film Toy Story, focusing on the character Buzz Lightyear.
Cast

Chris Evans stars as Buzz Lightyear, a toy who comes to life and goes on adventures with Andy, Bonnie, and the rest of the gang. Evans is joined by Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, and Don Rickles, who all reprise their roles from the Toy Story franchise. The film will also include voices from Keegan-Michael Key, Jordan Peele, and Tony Hale. The film is set for release on March 23rd 2019 in 3D in theaters across North America.
Release date and plot
