Shilpa Shetty, an actress, posted an explanation of the Sarva Pitru Amavasya on Instagram on Sunday, the day on which people honour their ancestors and carry out special ceremonies in their honour.
She penned: “Today is Sarva Pitru Amavasya, a day when we pay tribute to and perform rituals for our ancestors. Vedic scriptures state that each of us is born with three debts that must be repaid during this lifetime.”
“First, we owe the divine (might of the Devas), the rishis, and the pitras” (ancestors). Through memory, prayer, and gratitude, they have the capacity to support us on our life’s path.
The Magha Nakshatra, which is one of the most potent nakshatras and is controlled by the Pitras, has a specific relationship to the ancestry (ancestors).
Your spiritual practises assist your ancestors in achieving Mukti, or emancipation, and as a result, they send you a bounty of blessings.
“From the other side, our forebears see us with the knowledge that life is but a game. And even though they typically play the spectator role, they are more than happy to assist us if we ask them to.”
Therefore, let’s pray for and be grateful for our ancestors, knowing that they can assist us advance on our trip if we merely remember them.
